In the spirit of San Martin...

This Center is responsive to the changing needs of the individual, the family and the community as we attempt to weave the fabric of tradition and vision into a shared profit of healing the community.

Our Mission

San Martin De Porres Center, a non-profit mental health agency designed to use therapeutic methods to treat Psychological, Emotional and Spiritual problems to enhance a healthier & happier living for the individual and families.

San Martin De Porres Counseling Center was established in 1989. In 1993, it became a community counseling center. It's primary objective is to provide low cost, and quality mental health services to the residents of the Los Angeles area.

Our current profesional Staff represents six ethnic groups with a common belief in the importance of healing the family, the individual, and the community. Our board of directors are people from our community and reflects the diversity and character of Los Angeles. These people are active in their respective businesses, but who have also a heartfelt desire to serve the mental health needs of the inner cities. The board's function is to set and enforce the policies of the agency: help define the needs of the agency and the community it serves.

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy hinges on our belief that every child deserves to be emotionally, and physically healthy: that every child needs emotionally stable parents and stable environment. And therfore, those who are not so stable, we will re-habilitate and re-establish by re-vitalizing, empowering and preserving the individual and/or family to make them live a productive life in our community.

Our Objective

Is to focus on the rehabilitation and maintenance of the family, and attempt to enhance the marital bond, strengthen healthy parenting skills, and increase effective communication.

In addition, SAN MARTIN DE PORRES COUNSELING CENTER understands that some individuals do not utilize the services of a counseling center, we therefore offer workshops and seminars that impart useful information to the community that can assist him/her in recognizing areas of life that need modification, such as parenting classes, domestic violence diversion program, how to get along with inlaws, bi-polar disorders, paranoia, cross-cultural issues in relationships and marriage, alcohol and drugs in the family, etc.

Due to these specific areas, our staff are assigned to facilitate these workshops/seminars according to their area of expertise. For example, the Marriage and Family Counselor would facilitate the workshop/seminar on Parenting, the social worker on cross-cultural issues in relationships, and the psychiatrist on Bi-Polar Disorder, etc. Interns and trainees will facilitate within the area in which they are supervised (i.e., Marriage and Family, etc.).

Our Approach

The Center's approach to psychotherapy is holistic which encompasses the total mental health of the individual: Psychological, Emotional & Spiritual. The Center strives to lead the individual through the recognition of the Self which leads the way to total healing.
